What are some good Star Wars Books to read?
ok everyone I'm a huge star wars fan I've read Fate of the Jedi Outcast a few NJO books and the thrawn books what other star wars books should I read I would like to start at the truce at bakura where should I go from there what books are necessary to read to get me to Star Wars Legacy? Which are not? Are all of the NJO necessary or are there some I can skip? Thanks for the help.

Did "Outcast" make any sense at all to you? I'd have to think there were a lot of WTF are they talking about moments in it but it was a very good book but it exposes the main problem following the story of the EU ... the books do build on each other and it is easier to know what's going on if you read them in some semblance of order.
"The Truce At Bakura" is a decent book. It is set the day after the events of ep VI. You say you've read the "Thrawn books" ... which ones? If you've read the Thrawn Trilogy: titles are "Heir To The Empire", "Dark Force Rising", & "The Last Command"; then you're ahead in the game. If you haven't read all three of these books the ones you haven't read would be the best to read next. If you have read all 3 of them then I would recommend the X-Wing books next ... at least the first 4 of them but it would be better to read the first 7 of them. They are set before the Thrawn Trilogy but they are awesome reads and tell the story of how the Rebellion retook Coruscant from the Empire and give a ton of background info on some characters that will carry the story forward in the time line. After that I would recommend The Jedi Academy Trilogy; titles are "Jedi Search", "Dark Apprentice", & "Champions Of The Force". Then you could skip ahead to the Corellian Trilogy; titles are "Ambush At Corellia", "Assault At Selonia", & "Showdown At Centerpoint". The Corellian Trilogy is absolutely essential to read if you want to understand a large part of the Legacy story arc. Next is The Hand of Thrawn Duology; titles are "Specter Of The Past", & "Vision of The Future". This duology is also essential to read ... after you've read it you will know why. The New Jedi Order story arc is next and there are no books in that that can be skipped if you want to understand all that goes on in the story. Simply put the NJO is one of the best, if not the best, multi author, multi book story arcs ever written. The stories are tight and fit like a hand in a glove with the other books of the series. The Dark Nest Trilogy is next; titles are "The Joiner King", "The Unseen Queen", & "The Swarm War". This trilogy is a good one but be prepared for a "let down" because while it is well written it isn't at the same standard as the NJO but then again few books series are. In this trilogy Luke & Leia finally learn who their mother is ... guess who tells them ... I said guess ... I'm not going to tell you ... lol ...
The Legacy of the Force story arc is a decent one but could have been much better if Karen Traviss hadn't been one of the authors used to write it. As you read them you will notice that the books written by her don't quite seem to fit with the others written by Troy Denning & Aaron Allston. When these books were written Traviss was getting into a fight with Lucas about the Mandolorian books she had written in the Clone Wars era of the EU. She was one of the "rising stars" in the pool of writers that Lucas allowed to write in the EU at the time but she got ticked off because she claimed that Lucas was contradicting the Mandolorian Culture in the Star Wars The Clone Wars animated series. Apparently she thought she could bully Lucas into backing down ... quite foolish on her part because when anyone, and I do mean anyone, challenges Lucas about Star Wars they lose. She should have asked Timothy Zahn what happens when you tick off Lucas by saying something "stupid" about SW. Zahn is the undisputed "master" of the SW EU but after Zahn made an off the cuff remark when asked for his thoughts on ep I. All he said was that he didn't quite understand the way Lucas was describing the use of the Force in the prequels ... that was it ... and Lucas kept him from writing any books in the EU for about 5 years. The claims made by Traviss were not true. Yes, Lucas did change a couple things but for the most part left the Mando culture the way Traviss wrote it. The fight was as short as it was stupid for Ms. Traviss.
May The Force Be With You ...

Everyone on here is giving really complicated answers. Best Star Wars Novel ever are the 3 of the Thrawn Triology (Heirs of the Empire, Dark force Rising, the Last Command.) They were the first "Expanded Universe" books published, so they're great ones to start with. They don't have Anakin in them though, so if thats what you want I would look elsewhere. But seriously, these are amazing.

Labyrinth of Evil
The story takes place just before where Episode 3 begins.
Easy to read, easy to connect events and heroes within the epic story of Star Wars.

I like The Lost Tribe of the Sith- 5000 BBY. They are the first in the series, chronologically speaking.
