Why are my roots a different color?

So when I was younger I had strawberry blondish brown hair(yeah its kind of hard to describe and I don't know the proper name if there is one). Some of my roots are still that blondish color even though the rest is a medium/dark golden brown. Does anyone know why this happens?

Genetics. For some people, their hair changes color in whole or in part as they grow up, (my daughter has had three different colors) and for others it basically stays the same until they go gray.
