Has your dog ever escaped from the groomer and disappeared?
I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone before because it happened to me today.
Today I took my poodles to the groomer, a place I've used three or four times in before. After about an hour the groomer called me and told me one of my dogs had escaped and ran out the back door and she was unable to find him. She was drying him off on a table, unrestrained, and one of her friends opened the back door of the office and slammed the door into the wall. This scared him, and he jumped off the table and ran out the open door and disappeared in a condo development that covers over 10 acres and has woods and a field.
I've had dogs since I was four years old. I've never heard of this happening, and I think it's unconscionable. Has this ever happened to you or someone you know?
(After several hours my dog was located 1/2 mile away in a different housing development in someone's backyard. Several people in the community, including our local mail lady, looked for him, which is so heartening. Many people saw him over the course of the day, and we kept following their sightings. My husband, who left work early to help, is the one who finally picked him up. He sat on the ground and the dog ran into his lap.)
I guess I am the only one this has ever happened to. Thank you all for the kind answers. If my dog had run east instead of west he would have been on the divided highway and surely been killed. I don't have any comment to make about the groomer and her business. I am very thankful that my dog was not hurt or killed.
As for the law in my state, there is no recourse. Dogs are considered personal property on the order of bicycles, and even if my dog had been killed I would not have had a cause of action.

Don't understand the thumbs down : the reason I never had this problem is simple I stay at the groomers till they are finished with my dog. I paid way to much for my dog to let anything like this happen in the 1st place.

some Petsmarts have super groomers, some do not. in case you have a possibility to circulate there right this moment and grasp around, you may ask somebody who's only had their canine groomed there or take a peek in the window. Or ask your vet in the event that they have heard something sturdy or undesirable. Our nearby Petsmart isn't so sturdy, yet this is just one shop out of probable hundreds.

In Colorado, there is the Pet Animal Care Facilities Act, or PACFA, and negligence like this is in direct violation of PACFA. If it were me, I would:
1.) Not pay for this visit
2.) Report the grooming facility to the appropriate agency
3.) Make sure other pet owners I know know that this is likely to happen if they choose to take their dogs to this facility.
ADD: @bb: They don't just need to be more careful with HER dogs, they need to be more careful with EVERYBODY's dogs. This probably isn't the only time an employee there has slacked off and caused a dangerous situation. To me, this is not something to be taken lightly.

If I was in your shoes the police would have had to be called to restrain me. It IS absolutely unconscionable. Areas where dogs are being groomed unrestrained should always have door redundancies to prevent something like that from ever happening. I'm so happy you were able to find your dog before anything bad happened to him!

They are dogs and we cannot know what they think and how they will resolve a trouble for them:
your pudel was frightened may be by the door or by the fan-dryer they dislike all what blows and vacuum!
sometime they look for their master I remember my old parents go shopping:they forgot my Brittney outside but one hour later I saw her at the entrance of my buro one mile at least from their home.
Originally pudels were hunting dog their ancestors were "BARBETS" used for water game yes and its easy to recall its roots lol.
In this case you don't need the groomer!
Care some groome use to half asleep the dog with drugs to work easier. After a while it become hard for their heart especially if the dog is old.
Pass me your dog one month they will swimm and bite the socialist mean than pits.
Source(s): no present for the groomer:be careful the one who has done nothing may throw the first stone. There are two facts sur ethe door opened but to the dog who escaped . sure at this time the dog was under control of the groomer. - 1 decade ago
I've never had this happen, but it sounds like an honest mistake. If you keep going there, They will probably be more careful with your dogs. I'm glad you found your dog!

I bet this time next year that shop will be shut down due to negligence.
I would also not pay them a dime for the grooming this visit. They failed you and your dog.
