I'm not entirely sure, but I do believe they were mummified. Don't count on me for that answer.
I have seen "Hachi: A Dog's Tale". It was REALLY sad! I can't believe how loyal that dog was. I wonder what made that dog do what he did in the first place.

Egyptians were the first group to document the domestication of the cat. It very well could have happened in other parts of the world. In ancient Europe, small felines weren't native. They most likely developed from cats that were hidden on ships or brought back from Egypt and Africa. As cats spread throughout the world, they adapted to their environment and were selectively bred by the people in that area. So today, you have breeds and varieties of cats from all over the world that look and act in their own unique ways.

Cats were the most sacred animal in Egypt. If you killed one on accident, it was most likely you would be killed. Of course this was Ancient Egypt, this never happens anymore just to clear the title of your question instead of " Egypt " Ancient Egypt. Also anotehr sacred animal was the Crocodile. In a temple called Kom Ombo they have coffins and places of where they buried and mummified them. Theres also a Museum outside of the Temple that shows the crocodile that the Ancient Egyptians mummified.
