    The reactants and conditions indicate that this should give ester formation. The most obvious reaction is formation of the diester.

    CH3CH2COOH + HOCH2CH2CH2OH <=> CH3CH2COOCH2CH2CH2OH + H2O

    CH3CH2COOH + CH3CH2COOCH2CH2CH2OH <=> CH3CH2COOCH2CH2CH2OOCCH2CH3 + H2O

    This type of reaction, Fischer esterification, will always be an equilibrium. Water is one of the products and will cause the reaction to fail to come to completion. Removal of water is an important step in order to obtain the maximum amount of product. It is likely that the products will be a mixture consisting of the monoester and the diester. If you started with a dicarboxylic acid you might obtain a condensation polymer (nylon is that type of polymer).
