Any one of the following:
25 kilos of average quality rice
meat, eggs and veggies for roughly 4-5 days for family of 4
10 filling meals in a transfat-laden fast food outlet
approx 40 rides end-to-end on the MRT (i.e. almost a month's worth of back & forth trips on a 5-day workweek)
1 child's buffet (half-price) at high-end hotel buffet
2 family-sized pizzas and a bottle of soft drinks, delivered at your doorstep, without any promos
5-8 movie tickets depending on location
10 Starbucks coffee of the day, tall, no frills. About 6 fraps, tall
1,000 sms messages after the free allocation
roughly 40 games in an arcade
2 haircuts, good-quality salon
one month phone bill (no frills--single line) plus water bill for small family

1000 pesos is not a big amount. It is roughly about 30 bucks. You can't even buy decent knockoff bags with a thousand.
Average fast food/person is around 100 bucks.
Fine Dining is about 500/head
Casual Dining/ TGI Fridays-Outback.head 300 to 500, provided you order only the lowest prices entrees
Parking is 45 bucks for the first 3 hours
Movietickets is around 150
What you can buy a lot of are bootleg dvds which is only 30bucks. PSP,WII, Music cds.
Other than that, the average middleclass date would cost you around 3000 bucks.
My 2kids and I on average spend about 3 to 10 thousand bucks on a Saturday at the Mall. Food 2 to 3thousand, shopping and movies
So one thousand essentially is nothing even for groceries where a kilo of beef is already 300 bucks and shrimp is 600.

1,000 pesos is not a lot of money to a foreigner but it is decent money to a local that knows where the good deals are and how to haggle for them. For most foreigners in the Philippines 1,000 pesos is not much money and can only buy a limited amount of things such as:
1. Twelve SMB's at 80 per beer
2. One meal at a nice restaurant in the mall such as Tony Ramos
3. Three meals at McDonalds
4. Six SMB's at 150 per beer that you would pay in Greenbelt
That's about it. As you can see things are not as cheap as you would expect in the Philippines.
