Don't be fooled by those "Dish cost less" ads. Their "offers" usually end after a short time, they have dropped a number of channels from their service (they're in a big fight with Fox over costs of all their channels), and there are many channels that they don't carry in HD.

I've had DirecTV since 1998. Never had a problem that wasn't easily solved. Their sports programming is far better.

The bottom line pricing on Dish network and Directv is around the same because while Dish's base packages are cheaper, Dish network has a lot more fees. They charge you for each DVR's monthly service whereas Directv only charges one flat fee for all DVRs on the account. Directv has more sports packages and we own the rights to sell NFL sunday ticket. We are also the only satelite provider who currently bundles with AT&T and Verizon and others. Dish Network lost that contract to us recently. Directv is hands down dollar for dollar better than Dish and Dish was rated in the top 10 in worst customer service. Directv doesnt claim to be the cheapest service, if you want that Id go to your local cable provider, but we are the best quality and have the most HD channels available. :) Also what that person said about the ordeal Dish is having with Fox is true. They are going to soon lose all of their Fox channels and are on the verge of losing their Fox local channel as well.

Directv tends to have more channels and a better selection of sports. However, if keeping the cost low is important to you, Dish may be a better choice.
