Does the age of a fruit effect the vitamin C content?

I'm not an expert, but here goes :
I remembering reading somewhere that all fruit (and vegetables) loses it's vitamin content over a period of time.
Obviously the nearer a fruit is to becoming over-mature, the furthest from it's best it is.
