Old-fashioned girls' names: this, this, this, or that? [2]?

I made another one of these by request. :) Some are more common, others are not. Just a mix of old-fashioned girls' names. I made it a "this, this, this, or that" to give people more options.

INSTRUCTIONS:

The instructions are simple, really. All you have to do is choose ONE (no more, no less) from each group.

1.) Clementine, Willa, Agatha, or Eugenie?

2.) Lavinia, Octavia, Leora, or Melvina?

3.) Joanna, Teresa, Adele, or Cornelia?

4.) Myra, Alberta, Selma, or Louisa?

5.) Olga, Barbara, Estelle, or Marguerite?

6.) Vera, Marion, Lulu, or Dorothy?

7.) Beulah, Blanche, Olive, or Esther?

8.) Katherine, Greta, Clarice, or Jemima?

9.) Beverly, Patricia, Norma, or Geraldine?

10.) Elaine, Carol, Wanda, or Doris?

11.) Bonnie, Yvette, Iris, or Naomi?

12.) Sylvia, Arlene, Charla, or Jacqueline?

13.) Eleanor, Juanita, Brenda, or Audrey?

[There was zero intentional organization or sorting to this one, whereas in the previous ones I tried to group more similar choices together.]

Enjoy! :)

    1) Clementine has really started to grow on me lately. I'd probably never use it because of the unfortunate fruit association but I think it has quite a pretty sound to it. I also think I like it partly because it is a three-syllable name ending in 'e'. I seem to have a liking for those kind of names as middle names. (Madeleine, Vivienne, Emmeline, Rosaline are all on my list.) Willa is quite nice. I find it intriguing but I doubt I would ever use it. I keep adding it to my general favourites list but I never know what to do with it after that! :P I'm on the fence about it, I guess. I don't find Agatha to be all that pretty, to be honest. I prefer Agnes. (even though people tell me I'm crazy for liking Agnes!) I'm not a fan of Eugenie. I'm starting to warm up to names that end in 'ie' but Eugenie isn't one of them.

    Verdict: Clementine!

    2) Lavinia is quite sweet, I must admit. It reminds me of 'A Little Princess' which was a favourite book of mine when I was a child. I'd love to use the nickname Liv. Octavia is a name that is on my favourites list. As with Willa, I'm on the fence about it. I can't imagine ever using it but the name does hold a certain interest for me. Leora is OK. I'm not a huge fan of it. Melvina is not a name I'm going to be adding to my list anytime soon. I like the feminine ending but the whole name together strikes me as being a little too boring. I think Milena sounds a lot nicer.

    Verdict: Lavinia

    3) I usually love 'anna' names but Joanna/Joanne has never appealed to me in the slightest. I find it to be horrid. Teresa is nice enough but I prefer the French version of Thérèse. I think it looks and sounds much prettier. Adele is nice but I think the similar Adelie sounds and looks more feminine and beautiful. Cornelia is lovely. I prefer Cordelia though which is why Cornelia has missed out on a place on my list.

    Verdict: Cornelia

    4) I don't really see anything special about Myra. It's a tad plain and boring. Alberta isn't a very pretty name, in my opinion and Selma isn't my style at all. Louisa is passable but only because I don't like any other name in this group.

    Verdict: Louisa

    5) I don't find Olga in any way appealing. I think it is quite an ugly name, to be honest. Barbara is not my taste. Estelle is quite nice and I like the meaning also. Marguerite is my middle name so of course I love it!

    Verdict: Estelle

    6) I love names that begin with the letter 'V' so Vera isn't too bad to me. Marion is quite distinguished and pretty which I love. Lulu makes a nice nickname. I would use Lulu as a nickname before Lucy for a name such as Lucia. Dorothy is a lovely, traditional name.

    Verdict: Marion

    7) Beulah looks a bit strange to me. I don't find it appealing when it is written down. Blanche isn't a name I'd consider using. Olive is quite cute, I think! And Esther is lovely. I had Rosalie Esther on my list for so long. I love the name Esther.

    Verdict: Esther

    8) Katherine is adorable and I think it's as popular as it is for a reason. Greta is quite nice. I don't like Clarice too much. I'd prefer the similar Clarisse but I'd much prefer to use Clara. I think Clara is gorgeous. I've always found Jemima to be too difficult of a name to say over and over. I stumble over the M's.

    Verdict: Katherine

    9) Gah! They're all as horrible as the other! :(

Verdict: If I had to choose them...Norma...just because it was Marilyn Monroe's name before she changed it.

    10) I have a good friend named Elaine. She's lovely. My second favourite name is Elena which is quite similar. Carol doesn't appeal to me. I prefer Caroline or Carolina. Wanda isn't the greatest name, in my opinion. Doris is horrid.

    Verdict: Elaine

    11) Bonnie is cute but too informal for me to ever consider using it. Yvette does not appeal to me at all. Iris is lovely but Naomi would be my favourite of this lot. I think it is a beautiful name.

    Verdict: Naomi

    12) Sylvia is beautiful! I adore it. I prefer the spelling Silvia though. I think it looks prettier. Arlene, Charla and Jacqueline are all names I hate, to be honest. I don't see any redeeming qualities.

    Verdict: Sylvia.

    13) Eleanor is a gorgeous classic. I'm considering using it to honour my nana Nora. I'm considering using the variant Eleonora at the moment though. Juanita isn't very nice in my opinion and Brenda is a name that I find a little stuffy. Audrey is absolutely gorgeous. I adore it.

    Verdict: Audrey

I quite enjoy hearing and considering the more uncommon names you have in these!

  • 1.) Clementine, Willa, Agatha, or Eugenie?

    Willa -- I have a thing for two-syllable A-enders for girls.

2.) Lavinia, Octavia, Leora, or Melvina?

    Octavia -- great Olivia alternative

3.) Joanna, Teresa, Adele, or Cornelia?

Adele -- It's so sweet, and it reminds me of "Jane Eyre"

4.) Myra, Alberta, Selma, or Louisa?

Louisa -- I LOVE this one. It reminds me of "The Sound of Music" and of Louisa May Alcott. I think it should be more popular than it is.

5.) Olga, Barbara, Estelle, or Marguerite?

Marguerite -- I like Margaret, and this French version is pretty if you want something a little different.

6.) Vera, Marion, Lulu, or Dorothy?

Marion -- This is another favorite of mine. It makes me think of Robin Hood's sweetheart. Very romantic! I also like Dorothy and Vera, though.

7.) Beulah, Blanche, Olive, or Esther?

Oh, Beulah, for sure! I actually know a little girl whose middle name is Beulah.

8.) Katherine, Greta, Clarice, or Jemima?

Katherine -- All time favorite girls' name.

9.) Beverly, Patricia, Norma, or Geraldine?

Oh, I don't like any of these! Maybe Norma, if I had to choose.

10.) Elaine, Carol, Wanda, or Doris?

Elaine -- I love Arthurian names.

11.) Bonnie, Yvette, Iris, or Naomi?

Bonnie -- For a while (when I first started on Yahoo Answers), Bonnie was my favorite girls' name. I like its simple Scottish vibe.

12.) Sylvia, Arlene, Charla, or Jacqueline?

Sylvia -- This is one that has been climbing my favorites list recently. I think it's due for a revival. It makes me think of woodland maidens.

13.) Eleanor, Juanita, Brenda, or Audrey?

Oh, Eleanor! It ranges from #2 to #5 on my favorite names list. I love its simple elegance, its regal feel, and its Jane Austen vibe.

    Great names, Noelle!
