Working two shifts close together, is this even legal?

I'm closing and opening the next morning. Leaving only a 7hr difference from Clock-Out to Clock-In. Is this even legal?

I am under the impression every company has their own policy -- though federal law has a minimum to obide by. If I was salary I wouldn't even question this.

Update:

For the record this is two 9hr shifts beside each other, so I already would be including lunch breaks...

More than likely it is legal. Most states do not require a certain amount of time between shifts and there is NO federal law that states a minimum time period between shifts. You need to look up your state's laws to see if they have a rest period or not... again, most states do not.

If you are 18 or older they can schedule you for 24 hours in a row if they want to - ask any doctor!

  • It's perfectly legal, they don't even have to give you lunch since you have the 7 hr break.
