Which track is better - Oracle developer or Oracle DBA?

Well I quiet agree with Sandeep here choosing between DBA or Developer is totally a matter of choice... But as he mentioned DBA are very rarely hired as freshers cause its a really important job. Every company has a database & they need a guy to manage it, maintained for perfect speed & free space. A DBA is the one who handles the heart of the application ' Database' of any IT or non IT firm. Its a support profile 24*7 operation so one works hard & is payed well for that. So, if you want to be a DBA you have to make sure you are trained from the right place complete your OCP certifications & then ready to compromise on the 1st job. Remember a company can have 100's of developer but just a few DBA's so that is why they are payed rich.

Coming to developer profile one designs or programs applications using Oracle or Microsoft products as required using any development software. So, this requires programming skills.Yes, you can always start as a developer & after an experience of about 3-4 years promote yourself as a DBA with the same company climbing up in the organizational ladder by training & certifications on the same. My friend Developer track & DBA depends on your choice.The major factor which affect most are..

1.If you are a fresher than DBA wont be able to give a job,because every company need exp guy as a DBA.

2.If you have interest in programming than go for Developer track.

3.If you dont have interest in programming than you can go for DBA...but....but..experience is must.

If you get selected in any org as a DBA than you will work under a exp guy.but package is very handsome in case of DBA.

You don't need to do the Developer track first in order to be a good DBA. Any good training course will cover the required concepts in sufficient depth. During Advanced DBA training, you will cover Developer topics. When you start doing performance tuning, and need to optimize SQL statements, you'll need developer training.
