It looks like a game of "Beggar thy neighbor" which can end only when everyone is a beggar.
The irrational and panic-striken response to the Great Recession can be explained by the lengthy period of relative prosperity in which our "great leaders" have grown up. They are not battle-hardened. But they are intelligent and hopefully fast learners. We need a new "Breton Woods."
One thing is for sure. If we expect the best, it might happen. If we expect the worst, it will surely happen.
