A good 'scary' costume could be a serial killer. Fake blood can get you your bloodiness but I assume you already thought about fake blood. Also, on amazon they have these pens and markers to draw on your face with. You can give yourself really convincing scars and bruises.

you should dress as an old grandma with blood dripping out of her mouth carrying some kinda bloody knife. i think that would be scary.
