I severely underestimated the shipping cost for an eBay item...Now what?

I recently sold an item on eBay, however the price I estimated for the shipping was grossly underestimated. I said $35, the actual cost was $95. Is there any way to be reimbursed for this and how do I avoid doing this again?

That's a huge 60 bucks the person might not want to pay. Send the seller an email and explain. Let them know it was an error on your part and you can still send the item if they pay the additional correct cost or you can refund their money. I highly doubt someone would send an extra 60 bucks for an item but you have to be honest about it. If they refuse then refund the money and cancel the transaction. The only option you have. You cannot make them pay the additional fee nor do i think you would pay that amount of money out of pocket. Next time weight your item and do your research so you can charge the correct amount for shipping. If you overcharge by a few bucks at least you can refund the difference to be honest about it. good luck.

Check with eBay (the FAQs section for sellers is a good starting place) but I think you're stuck. I'm sorry to say that, honestly. You really should have done your homework before setting a shipping price, as I'm sure you are now well aware.

To avoid having this happen again, don't "estimate" your shipping costs. Find out exactly what it will cost. Check the websites for UPS, FedEx, and the USPS to get shipping prices. Accurately weigh your item. See if these services charge extra for the size package you'll be sending. Decide which service you will be using and set your shipping orice to cover the actual cost of packaging and shipping.

Yeh, that's a lot of money. You may contact the buyer, say the item is out of stock and ask the buyer if want to cancel the business. So you can avoid bad feedback and loss of money.
