    I'm watching my betta right now~ ;)

I have a gorgeous blue and orange crowntail named Zaboo, and the day I got him he was wonderful. He swam around, and explored the tank like he was already used to it. Problem is, I didn't have a heater for him!

About a week after I got him, he still hadn't started eating. So, being an obsessive betta mommy, I found out that my boyfriend was wrong- that they need a heater. I plan a weekend trip to the petstore, and hope he's fine until then.

Guess what? He got fin rot. Then his fins clamped. All in two days. It was terrible! I hurried out and bought him a heater, and aquarium salt. His fins unclamped the next day, but he still hadn't started eating!! So my boyfriend came over with freeze-dried bloodworms and he finally ate. But I found out that freeze-dried is bad for bettas (I know, right? I really stress that other people do research before they get the fish, after my mishaps!)

I managed to get him to eat new, smaller pellets, and now he eats everything from frozen bloodworms to brine shrimp, pellets and flakes. :)

I nearly had a heart attack when I noticed that he ate too much one day.. I stayed up all night watching my baby! He was okay, fortunately!

A few days ago, I got my buddy a friend; a golden mystery snail that I named Phillip. He was instantly poking at him, wondering why some random yellow thing was moving in his tank. x3 I watched them for a while, and they seemed to get used to eachother. Zaboo only knocked him off the side twice (That I've seen, haha~), and they don't bother eachother anymore.

My Zaboo is currently still getting better from the fin rot, but he's swimming around looking hungry right now, and Phillip is climbing on the heater~

I love my betta with most of my heart (Hey, gotta save room for the boyfriend, right?), and I think it is the best thing in the world when I hear that someone else got as attached to their fish as I did!

I know my story was more of a ramble, but that's what my first few weeks seemed like!

Oh, and some random tidbits about my buddy::

He swims around the heater for hours, entertaining himself in the most adorable way~

He swims up to my hand when I move things around in the tank~

He hates filter currents with a passion, but when I had http://www.petfish.net/kb/entry/347/ to cover my filter, he swam through the tunnel. :) This was recently removed, because I believe it tore his fin! So now the heater is faced backwards and held up with duck tape; with his beloved silk plant blocking the current. I will need to buy him a new one!!

He flares at the color blue, and he seems to think that he is so macho with his tattered recovering fins. ;) I love him, he's adorable.

I wish you the best of luck in everything, and I hope you have enough room in your heart to love another finned friend~ <3

    He is in a 10 gallon now , name - Sha-naynay

My dog licks his tank, & he puffs up & charges .

my betta recently died on october 8..he was the best little betta ever.

I picked him out at the petstore because he was the sickest looking one, he was in the corner of that plastic cup thing, and when i picked him up he tried to bolt away from me

When I put him in a 3 gallon tank, he hid from me for so long, he was so scared of everything. I remember one time I went to bed and turned off the light and forgot about something and turned it on, and he was swimming everywhere but stopped dead in his tracks and hid.

After about a week he was the best little thing ever. He never flared at me, and when he did flare at his reflection in the tank, he would get scared of himself and hide! So basically he was all bark and no bite :) Instead of just tolerating me, he grew to get excited whenever he saw me. Not just because of food, he wouldnt sit there waiting for it

Whatever time of day--When I woke up from my bed, walked into my room really quickly or anything, he would stop whatever he was doing and swim to the front of the tank and swim back and forth and look at me. I trained him to jump for his food--one time he accidentally touched the tip of my finger and he got SO scared--so I knew he still had his timid little personality.

The 3 gallon tank filter broke, and I got him a 10 gallon tank. He was so happy, but he has a back problem where his back is slightly curved--couple that with his heavy tail (he was a veil tail) he couldnt swim around non stop--but he was obviously happy.

I stupidly thought since his personality was so sweet that I could add 3 other female bettas with him, because I wanted a sorority tank at the time. He flared if they got too close to him and "his heater" (he would always lounge on the heater) but that was it.The next day his beautiful fins were in shreds--The girls probably ganged up on him and tore him to pieces--he was so scared, he was hiding behind plants while they were swimming around. His tail was literally a stump.

I promptly returned them and it was just him again. With some bettafix and patience his tail grew back significantly and I decided to add 2 platies. He flared a bit at them at first but got used to them. fast forward about 3 weeks and I noticed his gills looked a little weird. I stupidly ignored it and then, he stopped swimming around--he would spend all day just sitting.

After a few days he was so weak that he couldnt swim to the top of the tank to get a gulp of air so I put him in a bowl. After that it happened so fast--first he started getting white fuzz near his mouth, then white dots on his stomach--I watched him and it looked like every breath he took was a struggle. I felt like crying, my throat would get tight whenever I looked at him. I knew it was too late to treat whatever disease he had.

I looked up humane ways to euthanize a fish and I found clove oil. I didnt have access to it, and the day I planned on getting it, he was gone. I felt a sense of relief..When he was dying, I thought about him all the time and it killed me to know he was suffering so badly, I was almost happy that he had finally found peace. I buried him 2 days later--I guess I just wanted to hold on for as long as possible..I had him for about half of a year. Best little betta ever. I love you Woodrow RIP<3

Just a day after I got a baby fancy goldfish, and he died this morning--I woke up and his tail was stuck in the filter. I quickly unplugged it and he floated to the top and tried to move his tail--his gills were moving and he was moving his mouth..after about 15 minutes he was gone.. Its like someone out there doesnt want me to have a fish to really love :( RIP Napoleon..
