Slow by today's standards. I'm assuming that you are looking at an older generation AM2+ socket motherboard, correct?

Ideally you'd want an AM3 motherboard, as AM2+ is a dying socket.

You can find plenty of AM3 motherboards on Newegg, some for as low as $45:

they're 2 diverse technologies, and that they don't must be clocked the comparable. I undergo in ideas my first motherboard with hypertransport, I had a 1Ghz hypertransport on an nforce2 board, whilst my CPU FSB replaced into in basic terms like 200Mhz. this is easily component to the ingredient.
