Why does store bought frozen pizza taste so bad?

What do pizza places do that makes it taste so much better then what you buy in the store? Is there something we can do to the frozen stuff to make it taste better? Even fresh pizza made at home doesn't quite have the same taste. l can't be the only one who has noticed this.

Fresh is usually best when it comes to just about everything! The only frozen pizza I think is reasonablly tasty is California Pizza Kitchen's Scilian Pizza. A solution is to also make up your own using either a premade crust (such as Boboli) or pita bread. For a simple sauce, try adding to tomato sauce, a little garlic powder, crushed cumin seed, salt and pepper. Top with your favorite toppings and add crumbled provolone and mozarella. The final touch is a sprinkle of balsamic vinager!

Everything is better when it is made with fresh ingredients and cooked for you on the spot. Frozen pizzas are made so they can be preserved for the amount of time that it takes to ship them to the store, sit there until someone buys them, and sit in your house until you make them. Therefore, there are usually quite a lot of preservatives and other junk in there that is not present, or necessary, in freshly-baked pizzas. The freezing process, while it makes it possible for the pizza to last that long, still makes it not-fresh, and will certainly affect the taste and texture -- the ice that forms on the pizza is going to melt while you are cooking it, thus making it rather soggy, so you are right there! Plus, most frozen pizza brands do not use the highest quality of ingredients. Why would they if the pizza is just going to be frozen? Their sauce will be pumped full of sugar because they think that it will make up for the fact that the taste sucks to begin with. The cheese (or, non-cheese is more like it) is usually some suspiciously plastic-like substance that can withstand being stored for an extended period of time. I could go on and on. Point is -- Fresh is always better! If you want pizza, get it fresh from a local pizzeria. If cost is an issue, then make it a special, occasional treat. Buying two or three frozen pizzas when you could have one really nice pizza, well, you be the judge! Hope I helped!

There isn't a frozen pizza out there that tastes any good because it's all about making a buck and not using quality ingredients. I think a number of them farm out their pizzas to a factory which just puts different labels on them. Fresh pizza from scratch is very easy to make and tastes infinitely better (and if you freeze leftovers), it doesn't taste like the cardboard grocery store brands.

Frozen pizza tastes bad because no manufacturer is going to put high-grade ingredients into it. The sauce, especially, is cheap, cheap tasting, and not worth the money. Some things are just not worth eating unless well-made. Only buy fresh made.

Don't buy California kitchen frozen pizza. It is the worst pizza I have ever eaten. Just awful and I mean AWFUL.

When you make your sauce, use a recipe that has sugar in the ingredients, and add it while the sauce is simmering. When you have a sweet sauce that has simmered a long time it makes a great pizza. Homemade dough is nice, but it's a catch 22 because you need practice to make it really good and how you like it.

I know what you mean. I used to buy frozen pizza (Tombstone and Red Baron) but now I hate it all. I only eat restaurant pizza now.

If I buy frozen pizza, I like buying DiGornio or Freschetta. I think those are the best two out there.
