  • I'm looking for a cold potato salad that I had in a German Restaurant some years ago.?

It had finely sliced potatos and was seasoned with a vinegar and mayonaise dressing instead of the traditional bacon-onion-vinegar dressing of German potato salads. It was one of three little salads served on a single plate and the flavors were wonderful. Can't find it anywhere! Help!

  • Help! I think I messed up!?

I bought an 18 pound frozen turkey to defrost gradually in my refrigerator. I left it in my car for a day and now it feels like its defrosted, although I saw that it takes 3-5 days to defrost one that big. I've put it in the fridge, but I'm concerned that there is too long of a time period between today and when I cook it on Thanksgiving! I need help!

  • I need some ideas for a main dish and sides .?

I'm making a loaf of artisan rosemary, gruyere, and black pepper bread and for dessert a flourless chocolate cake (made with beets). I've made these before and paired them with a glazed pork roast, candied ginger carrots, yukon gold mashed potatos, and spinach salad. But, I'm looking for something new and different. Ideas?

  • I have filed for Unimployment Insurance for the first time in my life.?

I have completed all written requirements and received documentation indicating what I would be eligible for. I was then informeda that I would need to talk to someone in a phone interview within 10 days. I spoke with the representative, which was quite an un-nerving experience!!!!, and was told I would be receiving a determination within 10 days. On the 11th day I received a new claim form indicating that I had not filled it out completely. I re-did the form, signed it, and put it in the mail. After not hearing anything for another 7 days I called EDD and was amazed to get through immediately. I was told that because I had not looked for work due to illness that first week, and had again indicated that I had not worked that first week on the second form, they were now going to have me do a second phone interview. I explained that I had had a torn retina and required surgery, which was why I had not looked for work. The man on the telephone was very nice, but said he couldn't take care of it on the phone. The second phone interview was not scheduled yet and he didn't have a date for it. He stated that they wanted to clarify why I had not looked for work. In the meantime, I've received a second claim form to complete, which I have done. Had anyone else gone through this??? I filed nearly 2 months ago and am running out of resources. Suggestions?

  • I'm making homemade spaghetti sauce to give as Christmas gifts this year (my own special recipe)......?

I am using canning jars and want to make sure that the sauce will survive being at room temperature for a few weeks. When I have canned peaches or made applesauce in the past, I usually put the finished product into sterilized jars with a seal then boil them in a water bath for the required time. Do I do the same for spaghetti sauce? Thanks!

  • i'm looking for a non-traditional German Potato Salad recipe.?

A few years ago I had dinner at a well-known German restaurant. The salad course consisted of three small salads on one plate. I remember that one was a shredded carrot salad and one was a really delicious potato salad and don't remember the third. The German potato salads I'm used to are served warm and this was served cold. It didn't have a mayonaise base and wasn't sweet and bacon-y like the traditional German salad is. I have looked everywhere for a recipe for this delicious salad and can't seem to find it. Ideas? It tasted like it has dill pickles in it but was very simple in presentation and flavor. Thanks!

  • I have an opportunity to go to Washington D.C at the end of August.....?

I've never been before and am on a tight budget, but I'm travelling with a friend who has to be there on business, so my room is paid for. While she's at the workshops, I thought I would take in the sights, but I'm a little concerned about the heat and humidity. I have never tolerated the heat very well and have found myself indoors during triple digit days. I know that there is a lot of humidity in that area too, but I'm concerned about how this will impact my overall trip. I'd like to see all the special sights and visit the Smithsonian, but I'm wondering if I should postpone this trip until spring and pay more. Any ideas on this?

  • What to make for a simple barbecue?

I'm having friends over on Saturday night for a barbecue. Because of my work schedule, I don't have a lot of time for prep work and, unfortunately, I have to work later the night of the barbecue. So, I'm wondering what I can throw together that will be tasty, easy, and reasonably healthy. All suggestions welcomed!

  • What does it mean when your supervisor treats you differently than anyone else on your team?

20 years ago my current supervisor and I had a brief, but pretty hot, affair when we were just colleagues. We had no real contact over the years as we both went in different directions. We weren't in love and to tell you the truth, I don't remember how it ended, but it wasn't awful. Now hes married (happily I'm assuming) and we work together again, only this time he's my boss. He was happy to hire me and I have been the consummate employee. I would never tell anyone about our past and we have never talked about it again. I make sure that I am appropriate in every way, follow his instructions and incorporate his feedback. We have a professional relationship and there are no inappropriate conversations etc. going on. He's sent me some emails thanking me for my work. So, when we are at meetings he compliments other members of the team for their work, but pretty much doesn't acknowledge mine. One-on-one, he's called me and given me lots of compliments and told me that my work is being noticed by his co-workers and the other bosses etc. Of course I'm very pleased to get this feedback, but I'm perplexed about his silence in these meetings. Its happened 3 times now and I haven't (and won't) said anything. Ideas?

  • I have a laminate wood floor in my kitchen!?

I'm having a heck of a time getting it to look clean and shiny. It looks clean after I wash it and is shiny while its wet, but as soon as it dries it shows footprints and water spots. I've used a lot of different cleaners, including a spray foam with a soft cloth that was recommended but none of them seem to work. The surface looks cloudy and I'd love to give it some shine but I'm afraid I'll screw up the floor. Please help!

  • What are some good potluck dishes to bring to an office potluck at the end of the month?

Our receptionist is retiring and we're having a small party for her. Even though its a good sized office, based on past experience, hardly anyone will bring food. Someone is bringing a bean casserole with turkey and other goodies in it, someone is bringing brownies and someone said they'd bring a fruit salad. I'm thinking about bringing a couple of things, one being a Curry Rice Salad with ham or chicken and I'm not sure what else. I would appreciate any and all ideas! Thanks ahead of time!

  • Corn chip spaghetti and chili casserole?

When I was a kid, I remember hearing about a quick fix casserole that contained a can of Chef Boyardee Spaghetti with Chili Con Carne and crushed Fritos. It was put in a casserole dish and topped with cheese and crushed corn chips, baked and enjoyed. I've asked many of my classmates if they remember the dish and they all look at me like I'm nuts. At any rate, anybody ever tried something like this?

  • Can I roast my turkey earlier in the day, carve it up, and put it in a roaster pan to reheat later?

I have a very small home and am hosting a pre-Thanksgiving celebration in another week. I'm thinking about getting many of my dishes done the day before and putting them in the refrigerator to reheat after guests arrive. Usually on Thanksgiving I end up spending time in the kitchen and away from my company and I'd like to do it differently this year. What I'm wondering, though, is if it would be ok to also roast my turkey ahead of time, carve it up, and put it in a roaster pan with its own juices, to reheat along with my sides? That way I can enjoy time with my guests before dinner. Has anyone ever done this before, and if you have, how did it turn out? Much thanks ahead of time!

  • I need some sound advice!?

I turn 60 in 3 months and find myself in the awkward position of having to start over----literally. I have a home that is currently upside down (and I love it----been here a long time), have a retirement fund that's taken some big hits in recent years and probably won't let me retire comfortably----ever, am in debt to the tune of about $15,000, little savings to speak of, am paying the IRS for back taxes, alone and pretty discouraged right now. On the positive side, I guess, I have been making payments on the unsecured debt that will have it paid in three years. When I get one thing paid, I put that money toward savings and another bill. My friends are beginning to retire and enjoy their lives while I feel like mine has gone very haywire. Any ideas are welcomed!

  • What am I doing wrong?

My attempts to make caramel are failing miserably! I follow the directions according to the recipe and use a candy thermometer, but the temperature reaches the required temp before the caramel is the desired color. If I cook it longer to get that rich golden brown, then it hardens like a Sugar Daddy on steroids! Last nights attempt ended up with the caramel having a texture of brown sugar, and this was simply supposed to be for a sauce! Please help!

  • Skin care products for Menopausal Skin?

I'm finally post-menopausal, but I am having difficulty determining what the best products are for my skin. I have skin reddening (not rosacia, but still red), which gets exacerbated by scrubs. My skin goes thru very oily and dry phases and I've actually been getting some pimples around my chin!!! I would like recommendations for a good cleanser, toner, masque, and rehydrating lotion that will help slough off old skin cells and not end up making me feel like I'm 13 all over again by the end of the day!
