I have filed for Unimployment Insurance for the first time in my life.?

I have completed all written requirements and received documentation indicating what I would be eligible for. I was then informeda that I would need to talk to someone in a phone interview within 10 days. I spoke with the representative, which was quite an un-nerving experience!!!!, and was told I would be receiving a determination within 10 days. On the 11th day I received a new claim form indicating that I had not filled it out completely. I re-did the form, signed it, and put it in the mail. After not hearing anything for another 7 days I called EDD and was amazed to get through immediately. I was told that because I had not looked for work due to illness that first week, and had again indicated that I had not worked that first week on the second form, they were now going to have me do a second phone interview. I explained that I had had a torn retina and required surgery, which was why I had not looked for work. The man on the telephone was very nice, but said he couldn't take care of it on the phone. The second phone interview was not scheduled yet and he didn't have a date for it. He stated that they wanted to clarify why I had not looked for work. In the meantime, I've received a second claim form to complete, which I have done. Had anyone else gone through this??? I filed nearly 2 months ago and am running out of resources. Suggestions?

you simply need to continue what you are doing to qualify. they will the records from your physican . make sure you take all of you backup paperwork with you to the personal interview. call to get a scheduled appointment., mail takes too long. also check with your dr. as the hang up may be in his office returning the completed papers they requested. I had that problem. good luck they are the ones in control, you can only assist in keeping papers flowing properly.

It's difficult to follow on the dates

if you were unable to work due at the start of your claim, due to illness, it's unlikely that your claim will be accepted. When you are able to return to work, you would complete a new claim the (or now, if you are able to work now).

if you were able to work at the beginning of your claim (the initial waiting period week), you have earned enough during the base period, and you are out of work due to no fault of your own = you will start receiving benefits. These benefits will be backdated and exclude:

    - your initial waiting period week

    - any days that you were unable to work due to illness.

To receive benefits you have to be actively looking for work and able to accept work, if offered.

You don't qualify for unemployment, while you are unable to work due to health issues.
