What to make for a simple barbecue?

I'm having friends over on Saturday night for a barbecue. Because of my work schedule, I don't have a lot of time for prep work and, unfortunately, I have to work later the night of the barbecue. So, I'm wondering what I can throw together that will be tasty, easy, and reasonably healthy. All suggestions welcomed!

Wow - I might consider putting the BBQ off to a better date where you can enjoy the meal with friends without having to go back to work later in the evening. It's like working 2 jobs having to come home to all those dishes and clean up after working again!

Pretty much anything can be done days ahead and gets better if it sits overnight. Like a potato or pasta salad, dips, veggies, chips or crackers. The meat can be marinated overnight, dogs and burgers are easy.

    Have fun!

I had this same conundrum last night! What I did was, I bought one of those bag salads with some grape tomatoes and bottled dressing for a starter. I got some chicken tenderloins on the cheap, I coated them in store bought bbq sauce before firing them up on the grill. I also sliced some zucchini lengthwise, drizzled with EVOO and sprinkled with a store bought rub and threw those on the grill. While the food was cooking on the grill I put some brown rice in my rice maker for a carb....long story, I know, but the whole shebang took less than an hour and it was healthy, not expensive, and tasty!
