need people to anwser that are 100 percent sure that there anwser is correct. Would i need a visa? im from the us and im staying with family in england

You would not be able to spend a year in the UK as a visitor as you are only allowed six months in any 12 month period. It's called the 'spent leave' rule.

US citizens can stay in the UK for up to six months without a visa, but to stay longer you would need either a work, settlement or a student visa.

An American citizen may visit in England for up to 180 days without a visa. See 2nd site for visa information. To stay longer, you will need to apply for the appropriate visa.

You can stay in England for as long as you want. You will however have difficulty with the Welsh and Scottish immigration controls.
