Trucking question. About Trailer Weight .?

How much is moved if any when you slide the axle forward on a spread axle trailer with a rear sliding axle ? I have been flatbedding for 6 years now and never pulled 1 or even work for a company tell recently that had 1 . just woundering what the benifit of it is . Is it even used to adjust weight or just to lessin the wear on the trailer when not loaded .

most spread you cant slid there are perment but the good new is that as long as the spread is longer then 10 feet from axle to axle you can go up to 40,000 and no more then 20,000 on axle

I haven't pulled a spread axle trailer but I do know that every trailer is different.

each hole on the slider gives you a certain percent of your weight not a certain amount.

you can only guess as to how much each hole will give you. for each hole you move the percent changes.

It doesn't mean you can't have a rough number to go by but I say play with the adjustments until you get a good idea of how much your weight is changed

Now the reason for the 10 foot spread axle is to legally get more weight on the rear axles.

On your normal tandems the legal weight limit is 34,000 lbs but on the spread axles you can use them as singles like the doubles pulling trucks . They can legally carry 20,000 lbs each

That gives you 40,000 lbs on the rear. Just remember that your gross vehicle weight cannot exceed 80,000 lbs.
