Installing an AC/DC Inverter?
My question is about the length and gauge of the supply wire. I wish to install this in a 2009 Jeep Unlimited, but there is no room under the dash and under the seats does leave it exposed to all sorts of stuff when I am 4x4 and camping. I am curious if I can install a 1200 watt inverter in the rear of the Jeep, have a good, secure place for it, but I am concerned about the wiring from the battery. Could I use a GOOD AC extension cord, just cutting off the ends and adding an in line fuse at the battery? Where I would like to put the darn thing is probably 10' to 12' of wire from the battery.
Any good ideas would be helpful.

an extension cord is not gonna provide enough power. I would use 4 gauge wire. Shorter the run the better off you'll be. I put mine under the seat with no problems. You can then run a extension cord off the inverter to wherever you need it.
When i put a 1200 watt inverter in my van I just used a long set of 4 gauge jumper cables I got from advanced auto parts then cut the ends. then I crimped 2 number 4 lugs i got from walmart on one end and slid some heat shrink tubing over the lug and connected straight to the battery.

What is the input requirement for the inverter? Should be printed right on it.
