Depends on what you want to teach them, and whether English is a first or well used language or a secondary one.
I was given a book at about the same age called I LIKE THIS POEM which has poems chosen by cildren and teenagers. I liked The Listeners, Ozymandias, Colonel Fazackerly Butterworth-Toast, The Owl and the Pussycat and The Highwayman.
Use a variety of medium, so poems above for example or songs, magazines or newspaper or books, listen to radio or watch an appropriate TV show (try some of the natural history programs or such from the BBC) or a documentary or a movie...

By simple English, you're probably not in America. I would suggest the types of sentences lesson. Simple, yet very essential.
