Exactly what SLG70 said except one detail. Don't let the wires accidently slip back into the hole in the back wall of the oven. LOL!!! It's a pain in the rear to fish them back out and an even bigger pain to take the back wall off and push them back through. What I always do is once I've taken the two mounting screws loose and pulled the element out, I take two zip-ties or a couple of loops of tape and place them around the wires before removing them from the element. This will prevent the wires from slipping back into the holes. Once the new element is reconnected to the wires, simply remove the tape or ties and re-install the element.

There are 2 subject concerns here: a million) a failing element, and 2) a failed selector swap and/or thermostat. a million) The element is "failing", or approximately to fail, as indicated through the pitting you defined. The pitting is inflicting bigger resistance at that region, inflicting that region to be warmer than everywhere else alongside the size of the element. it relatively is the susceptible spot which will fail quickly. 2) you have have been given a tricky selector swap (the Off/Bake/Broil swap) it relatively is inflicting the oven to proceed to be on besides the reality that this is technically switched off. except your a extremely reachable man or woman and characteristic a source for equipment factors, you ought to call a fix man or woman to evaluate and fix your oven. till it rather is repaired, shop the breaker grew to become off and, for further risk-free practices, unplug the oven from the wall.
