What could be the cause of a chemical smell coming from my car air conditioner?
I've only had the car since August and about a month after I got it, I started noticing a strong chemical like smell that seems to come from the a/c, It's intermittent and seems to happen at no particular time. I have it at the dealership now, but that haven't been able to get it to replicate the smell. The car is an Acura RDX.
Gary, I've tried running on fresh and re-circ. It happens on both. Someone told me it smelled someting like ozone. It remings ME of ether!

The evaporator coil could have a leak in it and the refrigerant vapor is leaking into passanger compartment area. It's probably more prevalent at cooler temperatures like in the morning. They should add some of that leak detector for ultra-violet light and check it.

I'm sorry your question is impossible to answer without being able to smell odor. Do you run air on recirc. or fresh. If on fresh you could be picking up odors from outside. Try on recirc. and see if odor goes away. G. Luck
