I don't want to wait 4 months to delete an old yahoo account..?

someone is using my old yahoo.com account to send out spam offers for Viagra. My old account is/was geebeegeoff@yahoo.co and now I use geebeeamiad@yahoo.co.uk. I want to delete the yahoo.com account as soon as possible because friends are writing me that they are continually getting spam from my old address.

Sign into the account you want to delete. Click on the "Delete your Account" option in this link:

Since you have now posted BOTH your account names online where they will be harvested by spammers (giving you more problems), immediately set up another alternate e-mail address before deleting the other ones. By using Import, Contacts, you can also import your Inbox messages, then one by one move all the saved mail folders to the Inbox to Import those too.

Close both e-mail addresses immediately after doing this. To delete your yahoo account click this link:

That's a common hack or virus problem these days - change your password immediately and hope it stops.

Then, if you wish to keep the information from your account, open an ALTERNATE account: you will not lose anything (contacts, address list, saved mails, folders.) There is a drop-down menu at the right in From: where you can choose which address to use for sending from either account. Use it just as you would for your primary address (which of course you can still use). You can send and receive email from either address from the same Inbox.

    * To notify your contacts of the email change, click on Options > Mail Options > Accounts (left side), then click on Add or Edit. Go back and click on Mail again. Under Management, scroll down and click on Announce E-mail Address, compose a message, AND add your Contact List in the header (BCC). Click on Preview and Send.

    * If you want to make your secondary email address as your primary address, you can click on Options > Mail Options > Account Information > Password again. Once in your account you will see E-mail Information. Click to designate which one you want as your primary, then click SAVE.
