What is a good brand for a digital camera?

For point and shoot I would suggest Canon

that said here are my favorite cameras by price.

100-200: pentax optio h90

canon powershot sd1300 (if you cant stand the h90 look)

300-400: canon powershot s95

400-500: pentax k-x

600-700: pentax k-x

700-800: canon rebel t2i(from here on things will look amazing)

800-900: t2i

1000-1500: canon eos 7d

1500-2500: canon 5d mark II this is the one that the pros use)

2500and above: nikon d3s

in general, you can usually trust Canon, Nikon for both compact and DSLR cameras. you can trust Pentax for DSLR cameras as well.

as for compact cameras, canon, Nikon, Fuji are the top three, after that come sony, panasonic, and olympus

I'm a big fan of the Canon PowerShot series.

It comes with good software to edits your pictures, AND a PRINTED manual! (No need to spend all that time searching through a 100+ page .pdf file!)
