Local Councils.. what role do they play as regards the Environment?

What do our Local Councils do as regards looking after our spare pieces of Land,,,,, and yet continue to disregard them. Some are like rubbish tips and yet one is very much used by people at weekends to look over the scenery. It is a very nice spot and I use it all the time, and it also looks over our Airport... which is also interesting. I have just come back from there, and as usual it reminds one of trying to get over every obstacle without damage to your car. I have made phone calls but get the phone put down on me, even though I try to be very friendly... very ignorant people. !!

i live in cumbria just by the dreaded mushroom factory ( bnfl) and our roadside verges and hedgerows are inundated with rubbish , yet the council personnel are daily to be seen , in green , trudging up and down picking up litter by the truckload ( DAILY) the secret a lot of the drivers passing through have just finished their packed lunches ,and though its already in the car / van/ truck/ to go home its lobbed out of the window and next morning the green machine get going again

i really don't know how they keep it up or survive the week .

p s its the same as the p / artists dropping litter left right and centre in town after a good binge , the councils do do their best , but the best is never enough against determined relentless assault

Source(s): same as every body , living with it !!

Efforts along these lines that are most often successful involve one or both of the following:

    1. Community Support (seeking a letter from an environmental group, a public official, a health and safety agency, a petition with dozens of people's names on it, etc.)

    2. Media Coverage

If you had both working for you, you might see very different results.
