Persuasive horse speech topic ideas?

I have to do a persuasive speech in English. About something I have an opinion about. I want it to be about horses (duh.) Any ideas? Oh, and it has to be something that is understandable to a class of non-horse students.

Thanks in advance!

Update:

I love all your ideas so far, but I need something that is like, REALLY persuasive...

I would look at the safety aspect of riding ;-)

You could use helmets for example. Why riders should wear one.

The statistics for brain injury from riding horses would not be too far off the figures from brain injury from falling off a bike. Therefore everyone can relate to it.

It is measurable as you can look up the statistics in your state or country. And you will have plenty of facts to back up your claims.

There is lots of information available on brain injuries and rehabilitation. You would be able to find some suitably squirmy photos to back up your persuasive argument if you have access to a projector or smart board.

It would have to be the most persuasive argument that relates directly to horses and would appeal to a non horse audience, especially if you make reference to riding bike and motor bikes to interest the boys ;-)

At the end of the day you can make any topic persuasive if YOU believe in it with all your heart and passion. An oral speech will be as much about your ability to compel the audience to believe what your saying.

The best argument in the world would be hard to believe from someone who is talking with their head down, in a muffled voice and stumbling over words.

Another topic that would have to rely on passion because I'm not sure of any statistics that exist, is the benefits that horses provide teenagers. When you asked the question about how to get a horse I gave you a list of the skills I have gained from horses.

Your topics ranging from that could be:

    - Skills gained from horses and break down each point - it can be persuasive because it is how you have been personally influenced by horses. Just make sure your passionate about it when you speak.

    - Horses can stop teenagers getting in trouble - you could interview several teens who have horses (keep them anonymous) and ask them about if they drink, smoke, get into trouble with the law, vandalise property, sleep with boys etc etc. You will find "most" teenagers involved with horses are more focused and don't do the above things. They also save their money for horse related things.

You can then compile the research and break down each question into a percentage of those who did and did not. Then use those stats to back up your claims in your argument.

These topics will be ones that your teacher will have probably never heard before, which will show how original you can be.

Good luck with your talk ;-)

Maybe you could just do the speech on horse riding in general about why you like it and what other people are missing out on by not doing it and persuading people to give something new a try and why horse riding would be an excellent choice. You could state the things you have learned from horse and horse riding such as trust, companionship, patience etc. And also the experiences you have gained that help you in everyday life as well. About what other elements horses and horse riding have given to your life. Why its an awesome hobby to have.

Hope this helps!! Good luck with your speech!!

i've done speeches on horse topics before. i like both dee and sean's ideas. do something off the list that you feel strongly about and put it in simplest form. Explain in detail so that they can understand better what you're talking about. Best of luck with the speech!

BTW i would recommend the horse slaughter topic, it would be easy to write about, has lot of information, and would touch many hearts, or do the unwanted horse problem in general getting backyard breeders and wild horses included.

The many various ways that working with horses can enrich ones' life.

    Edit:

The Bureau of Land Management is rounding up Mustangs in Colorado right now. The ASPCA is trying to stop it. You could report on the cruel ways the roundup is done... And how we can help to end it...

    Thesis:

I intend to persuade you today, through some examples from my own life as a horse person, that your lives can and will be enriched from getting to know the ways of horses and horsemanship better.

    (or something like that) :-)
