Dog suddenly and randomly aggressive?

My sisters lab/German Shepard mix is about 8 or 9 months old and has been acting really strangely.

My sister just got another puppy, which we thought was the problem but we're not sure now.

The dog has been with two other dogs for most of her life, and all of a sudden now, she attacks them for seemingly no reason. 95% of the time she's fine with them, and will lay with them or play with them. But she's attacked them without warning about 5 times. I didn't really believe it until I saw her do it. It's just like a switch goes off and attack mode cones on. We have her separated from the other dogs now, but why is she doing it? I feel like if it wa because my sister brought the new puppy in, she would have attacked the new puppy, but she hasn't, and seems to adore him...

I would have her blood tested for imbalance, have your vet look for thyroid level imbalances.

If she is normal, sending her off to an experinaced trainer may help. It might not.

I have had a few very dominant, bitchybitches that would arbitrarily just NAIL other dogs that were obviously submissive. One I could not break of this for the life of me. She would be fine for weeks, and then BAM. And you would not be able to see it coming. Finally I had to recommend the guy either get rid of her or the other dog. Well, or find another trainer, there maybe SOMEONE who could fix her, but I threw everything I knew at her and could not break her of this. She was an aussie shepheard. I still board her, and I can trust her with male dogs. But she was a strange bird.

Good luck, when aggression is involved I generally recommend pro training, as it is easy to get hurt if you do the wrong thing.

Make sure you get her checked out to make sure a medical issue isn't causing the problem. Whenever I've had dogs suddenly become aggressive for no reason they were usually in pain from something that was hidden and not noticeable without an exam by a vet.

She could be in pain, or have a medical issue that you don't know about that's causing her to act out.

The dog first needs to see a Vet to rule out a medical issue, then needs to see a Trainer or Behaviorist.
