    1.) 4x^2-2x=0

    2x(2x-1)=0

    2x=0 2x-1=0

    no 2x=1

    x=.5

    2.) can not be factored

    3.) 3x^2-4x-4=0

    (3x+2)(x-2)=0

    3x+2=0 x-2=0

    3x=-2 x=2

    x=-2/3

    First, that isn't an equation. What you need to do is to decompose that expression into some factors. you have x^8 + 8 x^2 = x^2(x^6+8) = x^2((x^2)^3 + 2^3). you should be attentive to that a^3 + b^3 = (a+b)(a^2-ab+b^2), so your expression will become: x^8 + 8x^2 = x^2(x^2+2)(X^4 - 2x + 4). i assume you purely did no longer be attentive to the formula.
