Any tips for a first time grocery cashier?

Hi everyone! I'm gonna be a grocery cashier/grocery clerk for the first time. Anyone have tips for me, thanks!

    1) Pay close attention when you are trained to use the register.

    2) Be courteous and polite to ALL customers (regardless of if they are having a bad day and are taking it out on you). Of course, be courteous to your fellow workers and managers as well.

    3) Again, pay attention to what you are doing. If your till comes up short too often, you're a goner.

    4) Avoid the 'gossip grape-vine' that is prevalent in every retail store. Stay professional and job-focused. Don't go around telling people about your personal life unless you want every employee in the store to know the details of your life (it only takes like two days for everyone to know about what went down in your life recently if you tell it to other employees).

    5) Don't try to use the workplace as a place to find a girlfriend. Companies have learned that couples who work at the same store are less productive - they are too busy kissing, arguing, talking, whatever - rather than remaining focused on their job duties. Save the personal stuff for your off-hours, which is kind of a tie-in to #4 above.
