78:65 “Then the LORD awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine.”?

Question: what educational value in Psalm 78:65?

Dionysus or Bacchus: He was the “only begotten son” of Jupiter, the king of the gods of the Romans and the lord of life and death (For the Greeks, his father was the almighty Zeus). He was named

the god of wine and revelry.

This is a prime example of how works like the Bible and the Koran are used to spread tyranny, confusion, and fear. When you take something out of context you can make it say practically anything you want it to. The Psalm you are referring to above has nothing to do with Dionysus in any way. Psalm 78 talks about how the Jews under Jacob forgot the miracles that God had wrought and the blessings that had been given to them during their exodus from Egypt. It explains how they forgot or ignored God's teachings over and over again until God finally lost his temper.

"Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies: But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their fathers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow. For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images. When God heard this, he was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel: So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men; And delivered his strength into captivity, and his glory into the enemy's hand. He gave his people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with his inheritance. The fire consumed their young men; and their maidens were not given to marriage. Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows made no lamentation." Psalm 78:56 to 78:64.

Passage 65 picks up where God reigns in his temper and realizes that things had gotten a little out of hand. Just like when a person sobers up and realizes that they did some things while drunk that the should not have - "a mighty man that shouteth by reason of wine." God realizes that he has done these things because of his anger and that giving his strength to his enemies and slaughtering the Jews for their transgressions was probably not the right solution. So passages 66 to 72 describes how God puts things right by removing his support for the enemies of the Jews and chooses David and the tribe of Judah to be his agents and deliver Jacob and the rest of the Jews to Mt Zion and Israel.

Moving on: Dionysus was not the only begotten son of Zeus. There was also Apollo, Hermes, Perseus, Heralces (Hercules to the Romans), and the Minotaur - to name just a few of his male offspring. The guy really got around. Jupiter also had several sons. Among them were Vulcan, Apollo, Mercury, Bacchus, and Mars. Also, neither Dionysus nor the Roman Bacchus are associated with being the "Lord of life and death" in any way. He was named the god of wine and revelry - you got that right. He was also the god of madness and insanity.

I don't know if you intended to confuse people with your question or are just confused yourself. The point is that you need to look at the whole thing. You can't understand a novel by reading a single sentence. You also can't fabricate links between wildly disparate sources just because it sounds nice. Any link between Psalm 78 and ANY Greek or Roman god is a complete and total fantasy inspired by crackpot conspiracy theorists with no real knowledge or understanding of the subjects they are plagerizing.

More than meets the eye, thats why you study it for yourself instead of relying on the preacher to tell you what to do.

Then you may find most preaches are pocket picking liars who dont even beleive themselves.
