    1.

    2y+5=x-----------(1)

    x+y=95-----------(2)

    substitute (1) into (2):

    (2y + 5) + y = 95

    3y +5 = 95

    3y = 90

    y= 90/3

    y= 30

    Substitute y=30 into equation (2):

    x + 30 = 95

    x = 65

    therefore, for the first question, x = 65 and y = 30

    2.

    x+2y=40 and 4x-y=70

    Similarly, let the equations to be (1) and (2) respectively

    x+2y = 40------------(1)

    4x-y= 70--------------(2)

    From (1):

    x= 40 - 2y----------------(3)

    substitute (2) into (1):

    4(40 - 2y) - y= 70

    160 - 9y = 70

    90 = 9y

    y = 10

    substitute y= 10 into (1):

    x + 2(10) = 40

    x = 20

    Therefore, for the second question, x = 20 and y=10.

    1) 2y+5+y=95, 3y=90, y=30, x+30=95, x=65. so x=65, y=30

    2) x=40-2y, 4(40-2y)-y=70,160-8y-y=70, -9y=90, y=-10, 4x-(-10)=70, 4x=60, x=15. so x=15, y=-10
