Whats happening to my video card?

I will try to explain the best I can.. I can sign on to AOL and I can sign on to Internet explorer. I do this from my desktop. ONLY on AOL does this happen..

If I leave my laptop on for awhile. and then sign on to AOL.. when I get to AOL the video card goes crazy.. The computer locks up and there are rows of very thin lines of different colors flashing.. I can see the back ground. This only happens on AOL.. NOT The big " E " Whats up with that?

Update:

maybe its the graphics card ??? but only on AOL

Running anything from videos on YouTube or playing a small resolution game will crash your video card if you suspect that to be problem. But if it's just happening to just one particular program, say the AOL client, could possibly be a corrupted program. Try uninstalling & installing AOL again, and see if that fixes your problem.
