Can I use my computer to create positive images from some old photographic negatives?

I don't have any photo developing equipment and can't afford PhotoShop etc.

    Hi.

A standard flat bed scanner would be rubbish at this sort of thing.

I remember seeing a small scanner for negatives and slides some time ago , looked up this and no longer available on this site but , this will give you an idea what to search for.

Any software normally comes with the package.

Do have a scanner? If not, you need to buy one. With the scanner, you tell it if what you are scanning is a positive or a negative. In your case, you have negatives. With everything set with the scanner, it will scan and turn the result into a positive. This is true with black and white negatives or color negatives.

Any image you could get from a scanner would be so lo-res it would be laughable. Send the negs off to a lab. It doesn't cost that much.
