Did Obama raise taxes on anything for anyone making less than $250,000 a year?

Did he keep his promise? He said not just your income taxes but none of your taxes.

Obama, by himself, can't raise taxes. The most important part of the equation is Congress. Congress has to pass tax law, but Obama signs it.

And he did sign a law that increased the federal tax on cigarettes by 61.6 cents a pack. Taxes on other tobacco products also increased. And many people who smoke make less than $250k a year.

Congress has not raised income tax on anyone yet. The end to the tax cuts is necessary to avoid a worse deficit and to return to the 1999 tax rate levels is not a tax increase. No one called the tax rate reduction a tax decrease. If we dont expire those tax cuts, we end up borrowing more from Asia to finance our deficit spending. The change in tax rate is for an individual making over $250K and it is 4% which is what it was in 1999. There has to be taxes on other items to get more revenue. Soft drinks, tanning salons, all the small stuff. That is necessary and not so awful.

Well, I can assure you that if he holds his ground and says the tax breaks I received under Bush should be allowed to expire but be extended for those who make much, much less then the dudes on the other side of the aisle will hold true to their own threats and force the expiration of ALL of those tax breaks, which means they will indeed go up for the poor and barely hanging in there as well. See, when you hire a bunch of wealthy white dudes who are up to their ears in debt despite comfortable incomes and then you DARE to suggest they pay a fair share of taxes, they get mad and start screwing the peons. Honestly, anyone who makes more than $250K per year in the US is already paying LESS in taxes as a percentage of their income than someone making 25K per year. The more we make and the more diversified our earnings, the lower our taxes and the more deductions we get. Account for the fact that pretty much everything I spend is tax deductible except my food (and considering I still do some highly specialized catering, some of that is as well - recipe testing/development is a business expenditure for me) and I'm shocked I pay any taxes at all. I'm pretty sure I can afford to pay at least half what my housekeeper pays, really. The folks under $250K/year need to get the message across to their reps that yes, they DO like having things like roads and fire departments so the taxes on people like me do need to be raised. That would take them admitting they most likely never will make that kind of money and that their reason for not wanting taxes to go up on the top 5% of income earners is they don't want to pay taxes when/if they ever make that kind of money and are therefore just unbelievably short sighted and greedy, so I really don't see that ever happening.

Source(s): Warren Buffet and I are of the same mind in this area, btw. He's one of my financial heroes.

A president can't change taxes, only Congress can. The president can make recommendations but can't raise or lower taxes.

Congress hasn't yet acted on the expiring tax cuts. If they don't extend them, everyone will get a tax hike. They're almost sure to extend them though for at least some people if not all.

Under the Obama administration there have been no federal taxes raised on individuals. In fact, a majority of taxpayers have received a tax cut in the last two years.

There was a tax cut that everyone got that was included in the stimulus package. People don;t even know they got it. The Republicans call that a tax hike because they know Fox viewers will believe it.

Also, the president can't say that your local taxes won't be increased and he never said that.

I don't about the poor folk that make under 250K.

But the grand kids... they're gonna get slaughtered. I'm just hoping I've checked out before they make the discovery.
