Time Warner Cable Internet vs. AT&T DSL...?
Which is the better internet service, AT&T DSL or Time Warner Cable? I currently have Time Warner Cable Internet and I'm paying quite a bit for it. I have no complaints about it other than it is kind of expensive. I'm considering switching to AT&T DSL to cut down on some expenses. I've never used DSL before and was curious to know which is better? I like being able to watch television shows online and listen to yahoo music without the skips and without having to wait forever for it to download. Can you do this with DSL?

I know someone with Time Warner everything (HDTV, phone, internet), but not sure what she pays for all that, or the rr.com internet part of that. At one time she had some sort of economy plan that was 768/128 kbps and flash videos started pausing every few seconds. Then she got 6 Mbps, but that was too expensive, so not sure what speed she has now (something in between those).
I have had DSL since 2001 which was Ameritech, before they merged with SBC and that merged to AT&T. The speed of your plan may be limited by how far you are from a CO (central office) or RT (remote terminal). Although, if they have uVerse in your area, you may be able to get something even faster. At one time I was limited to 1500 kbps due to 12,000 ft distance from CO. But I got switched to an RT 1600 ft away and now have 6 Mbps service. DSL has about 15% overhead, so actual test speeds are a little over 5 Mbps. It works fine for Hulu and streaming Netflix HD.
From what I have been able to tell Time Warner/RoadRunner can be rather difficult to deal with if you have a problem (took days of phone calls to get initial password and e-mail working). For AT&T you can always get help from other AT&T users at http://www.dslreports.com/ and they even have an AT&T Direct forum to get help from actual AT&T technicians.
