I am looking for a sharp reply to this very common ignorant hijab-related question...?
Over half of the people who comment on my hijab say "Aren't you hot wearing that thing?" and I always answer with a simple no. I need a witty, more eloquent answer to that. Any ideas?

Why not just ask them to try it and see. Having said that I too wonder if you have ever known any different? Sorry, it's not a question but I am saying I can see their point. It is not ignorance on the part of the questioner, in a way it is a lot to do with pity for you and I am sure is meant kindly, and not in an ignorant or common manner towards you.
In the West the hijab is seen as a form of control over women, which is frowned upon in a western society. People I am sure are not insulting you, more like trying to educate you into western ways of thinking, but perhaps in an ignorant manner as it my appear to you, they are trying to tell you that women should not be treated that way. I would apologise for them if I thought they were wrong, but they are not. I would hope that would answer your question for you.

Oh yes... people have asked me this question a lot! And sometimes people are ignorant enough to ask me if I wear this when I shower.
I answer differently, if it's in the winter I'd say no. If it's in summer I'd say yes but for God I'll do anything, so I don't mind. Or sometimes I'd say I'm used to it cause I used to live in the tropics (but this answer is NOT a good one, so I stopped saying that).
I would say that you can answer them by being honest. If you do feel hot, then there is no reason to lie. Say yes but add sometimes like "it's hotter in hell" or "I don't mind because I love God and I'll do anything for Him." Or like sister jojoba_rose says, you can ask them about the things they wear everyday or their hair. ask them if their hair bother them or something like that. If you don't feel hot in your hijab then just say so. Then say something like "but even if it's hot, I'll do it for God" :)
~Thank you very much!~

If it is a woman who has on tight jeans, I would say "Can you breathe in those?" If she has on a low cut top, I would say "Aren't you afraid you are going to fall out of your shirt?"
When they say no, say "There's your answer."
Then again, sometimes a simple "No" is all they deserve.
Rosy: Sister, you are right. My answer has a bit of nastiness to it, but I wanted to tell you that if you are in a workplace and you talk about religion, that is grounds for firing. If someone perceives that you are "pushing" your beliefs on them, it can be crucial. I am often asked why I wear hijab, and I just tell people it's because I have to cover my body. They leave it at that. Don't think that just because you say something respectfully that you will be in the clear.

People say not to judge a book by its cover,
Yet when you see me on the streets you judge me instantly and cross over.
You judge my loose garments as a sign of oppression,
It’s time to realise this is my choice of fashion,
I wear the scarf on my head to seek my Lords protection,
For He has ordered me to fulfill this simple obligation.
In the media you make up my personality,
I’ll now reveal my true identity;
Wearing my hijaab to honour myself
Not revealing my beauty for anyone else
Lowering my gaze to preserve my dignity,
A Part of my faith to focus on my piety.
You find it difficult to communicate with me behind my veil,
Let me ask you, does my face behind a phone prevail?
Behind this veil I let myself free,
Free into a sea of spiritual discovery.
My journey as a Muslimah only to please my lord,
As my priorities in life differ from yours.
So next time you see me stop and ask
I’ll try my best to accomplish my dawah task!

I am a Muslim woman
Feel free to ask me why
When I walk,
I walk with dignity
When I speak
I do not lie
I am a Muslim woman
Not all of me you'll see
But what you should appreciate
Is that the choice I make is free
I'm not plagued with depression
I'm neither cheated nor abused
I don't envy other women
And I'm certainly not confused
Note, I speak perfect English
Et un petit peu de Francais aussi
I'm majoring in Linguistics
So you need not speak slowly
I run my own small business
Every cent I earn is mine
I drive my Chevy to school & work
And no, that's not a crime!
You often stare as I walk by
You don't understand my veil
But peace and power I have found
As I am equal to any male!
I am a Muslim woman
So please don't pity me
For God has guided me to truth
And now I'm finally free!
just pray for that ppl
