Fallout New Vegas: The King's "favor"?

I don't know of another way to join The Kings, and I doubt there is one. From what The King tells you in the game it doesn't sound like they let outsiders in, and so he's making an exception for you as your favor. In any case your only other two choices are money (he gives you 1000 caps) or a free pass into The Strip (which only costs 2000 caps anyway). Since caps are pretty easy to come by (I had well over 3000 when I was making my choice), and this is likely your only chance of becoming a King I say the only way to go is to join The Kings. As a King you can wear their uniform (not that that will do you all that much good since it offers no armor protection) go to see the Kings in house barber, and also you will be able to walk around Freeside without having thugs attack you. I think you can also use their headquarters as a base, or at least sleep there. If the option was between something like getting a cool unique weapon or something or joining the Kings I'd take the weapon, but since it's just between caps or this I say take the unique thing. Who knows how it might come in handy later.

1000 caps is really nothing. You can get 1k easy by gambling, grinding mobs or scavenging.

Entrance to The Strip? You could either pay 2k caps to register OR sweet talk one of the brothers (Cant remember which one) at Mick and Ralph and get a false passport for 500 caps. Or you could always use the tram.

Last option would be to join the Kings gang. Benefits? A kings gang outfit and access to the gang's barber so you can change your hair style for free. No quests added. And I do not know of any other way to join.

Rewards are kinda lame for an ultimate king favor but it IS a relatively small town gang too...

sorry dont have a definitive answer but im about to finish the GI quest and ill for sure be a King. 2000 caps is nothing if you think about it. like you could get a half assed plasma rifle and a little ammo but eventually the gun or armor will wear down and youll have to save up more caps again.

Well I chose the money because Im that kind of person. But I figure you could do some side quests if you don't have it as your favor. But don't take my 100% word on it because I haven't done it yet.
