Stanford Supplement question?
I'm applying to Stanford and the supplement asks me to "Name your favorite books, authors, films, and/or musical artists." Should I just list my favorites? Should I provide some kind of explanation as to why they're my favorite.

Just list your favorites in books, authors, films, and or musical artists. Being honest and forthright is not punished by the admissions committee. It will study your choices, see if they are broad. it will get an idea of who you are as a person. No give then any more of an explanation about why you choose that book, or author, or whatever. The committee will form its own conclusions about that. If you give the Committee more than it requests they may think that you can't follow directions or that you are insecure in yourself and your tastes in modern culture.
The admissions committee asks for as much data as they can reasonably ask for. It is trying to make a good admission decision for the university and for the prospective student. Good luck.
