He's eligible to claim the credit if he was deployed outside of the US for at least 90 days between Jan 1, 2009 and Apr 30, 2010. The deadline is extended for one year (April 30, 2011 or June 30, 2011 if under a binding written contract by April 30, 2011.

The credit is 10% of the purchase price, not to exceed $8,000. If he's paying $45,000, the maximum credit that he will be able to claim will be $4,500, not $8,000.

Well, no, the maximum credit is 10% of the purchase price or $8000, whichever is less, so he'd be eligible for $4500.

The military extension applies IF he served on qualified official extended duty service outside of the United States for at least 90 days during the period beginning after Dec. 31, 2008, and ending before May 1, 2010.

There was an extension for deployed military personnel.

However, the credit is limited to $8000 OR 10% of the purchase price of the home.

As such, his credit will be limited to $4500.

ONLY if he applies for it and meets the requirements.

www.irs.gov form 5405 read the instructions carefully

with a home that cheap he won't get the full $8K, only 10%, but it's free money!!!!!

good deal for our veterans, but he must qualify and follow the steps. . . . .merely being a Marine does not qualify him, he must have served out of the country

Thought the tax credit was over - long time ago.

Do the military people get special treatment of an extension - oh how sweet life must be for them...

Are you planning on taking it from him?
