Are you for or against self-marriage and why?

"Chen Wei-yih has posed for a set of photos in a flowing white dress, enlisted a wedding planner and rented a banquet hall for a marriage celebration with 30 friends.

"But there is no groom. Chen will marry herself."

Did anyone read the article? She's making a statement. Its not narcissm.

Chen is sick of the societal pressure put on her to get married, so she said "stuff it, I'll marry myself!"

Its not official, since marriage is a legal contract between two people. She says she'll marry for real if she ever finds the right guy.

In the meantime, she wants more women out there to "love themselves". That is something I support greatly. MORE people should have "marriages of one". There are WAY too many people in this world obsessed with being partnered-off. I know one girl who is just INTOLERABLE when she's not in a relationship. Miserable, depressed, an utter bore.

    Yech.

I'm happy and content as a solo unit, I'm self-determined and I don't *need* a boyfriend or girlfriend to make my life complete- and because of that, when I *am* in a relationship, I have so much more to offer!

As for her solo-honeymoon, I just have to laugh at you nay-sayers! You have not *lived* until you've travelled solo. Its true adventure, and you learn so much about yourself.

I think it's the stupidest idea in the world. She's going to divorce herself later if she's not happy with the marriage with herself? Marriage is a bond between 2 people, I don't understand the logic of self marrying???

  • What is the point there, it's just life as usual with the addition of throwing yourself an expensive party.

What a lonely honeymoon that would be.

It is the stupidest waste of money. in this day in age what person in their right mind would waste the money, paper, and all materials for such a dumb thing. she sounds like she would use a few pills or a soft room of pillows.

it sounds like a big "I'm trying to get over my low self esteem" party. Didn't know they had those, but apparently they do. Seems like everybody receiving the invitation would have a huge "What the ::explicate term::?!?!" kind of moment.

I just think that is dumb. I guess I am against because marriage involves two people by definition.

How is this different from homosexual marriage? Both are pointless and useless. You can have a ceremony and get rights but you will never be married. Its all the same useless waste. Two atheists are not married the same way 2 goats in a church arent married. God Bless

No. The sex would get redundant and dull, and I'd probably end up cheating.
