Why is my laptop slow?

When it comes to speeding up PCs (defragmenting, CCleaner etc), Im pretty sure im an expert. But my laptop is for some reason slow. My PC (1.8 Ghz, windows 7) working much better when logged on (maybe 10s and he is ready) but on laptop you need to wait at least 30s and loading start is slow anyway. Laptop: 1.6 Dual Core, 512 MB ram. I ordered additionaly 1 GB RAM, would that help?

    There are many things that can slow down your laptop, but here are some overlooked issues:

    * Check to see if it updates automatically

    * Make sure you have enough space of your hard drive

    * Empty your recycle bin

    * Erase temporary files

    * Do a quick virus scan

    * Change the Visual Settings

    * Change your theme to Windows Classic

    These are some overlooked functions that people forget to do-instead their jump right into expensive softwares and applications to help speed up their Lp.

    Let me know the functionality once you've completed the checklist.

    Do a virus scan, and also scan for spyware with something like Spybot Search & Destroy and/or Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Great apps. And yes, more RAM would personally help in your case. After all, you're practically running Windows 7 on minimum requirements. Yes, 1GB will help though. A slow computer could be from numerous things though. More often than not, usually viruses and/or spyware are the culprits.

    Your pc is slow because 2 reasons (it will only become slow if you are using a lot of ram, then its a ram problem)

    1. Your processor is really slow. you will probably need to upgrade to a 2.2(or more)GHz dual core processor.

    2. Your hard drive has a slow transfer rate, or is just old.

    Yes it will help.

    The main reason a PC is slow, is lack of RAM. And to be honest, 512MB these days is very few.

    Consider that a new reasonable priced PC will start with a 2GB RAM or more.

    Your PC will be much faster with this extra 1GB.

    If you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you should have at least 1 GB RAM, but 2GB is what I recommend.

    More ram does help in starting up, you could also use ccleaner to help you do a selective start up which is in tools and click on start up.

    The files you need to start up only each time is system 32 and your anti virus.

    Hope this helps you a bit more
