Open-Bite Surgery Question?
Ok, I started my treatment with braces at age 11. I was done with braces and all that by 14 (closed my open-bite). At age 16, my open-bite had returned. I've still got all my teeth as well. Went to another orthodontist who told me that braces would never have solved my problem, and that I need surgery. So I had 4 years of treatment for nothing. I was then told that there is a 40% chance of relapse after surgery. Also, surgery is really expensive. Having been through all this, I just want to get my teeth removed and have dentures put in. I mean, going through all this trauma of surgery and orthodontics is really making me fed up.
I mean, what else can I do?
An orthognathic surgeon told me I can live with my bite, another orthontist said I have to have treatment at some point. All these differing opinions are leaving me fustrated. It's like I'm having my horoscope read instead being given a solid medical opinion as to what to do.
So, where do I go from here?

Wow, when I read your question I couldn't wait to answer you. Please do NOT mess with your bite. I had an open bite all my life and never had any problems eating, etc but a dentist told me a couple of years ago that I should have my back teeth, etc cut down to close it. I didn't want it done but when he drilled a couple of teeth to do some crowns, he took it upon himself to drill down my back teeth to close my bite. Well, it changed the shape of my face, it didn't improve my eating, etc. It has been a nightmare. Unless there is some reason why you want your bite closed, let it go. Believe me, there are worse things than a bad bite and many many people have one and live with it quite well. The problems associated with trying to close it can cause more problems that you might not be able to live with. Hope this helps.

It seems such as you have a particularly complicated case. i think of you will income from an opinion from yet another orthodontist. perchance a referral from the close by dental society could be a stable thank you to start. clarify your situations, and ask for the call of an tremendously experienced orthodontist. you could would desire to speculate in appointments with quite a few diverse orthodontists for examination and prognosis previously you discover somebody you will sense precise approximately working with. each and every orthodontia prepare i've got ever heard of is stable approximately helping sufferers (or their dad and mom) set up a value plan. They be attentive to their paintings is severe priced.
