Who is the severest judge of your poetry?

GUARDIAN OF THE GATE

by Elaine

The Guardian is strict,

demanding perfection,

accepting no excuses

for human flaws and failings.

The Guardian is merciless,

flinging words like David’s rock

not at giants, but at those

who dare to call on Poetry.

The Guardian holds the key,

but it is old and rusty;

it will not turn the lock

though my fingers ache with trying.

    Dear Guardian:

Please give me a break. I promise to do better next time!

Off here the answer is probly "ME"

On here I don't think severe is a word I would use, but many offer constructive suggestions like Todd. and others who have answered yer Q.

I think severe might more relate to those who say things like "Cra*" or worse, with no explanations.

Then I seem to still have a hater who calls me the "Texas Twit" and I chuckle when I see it.

I think severe dilutes and can dissolve ones passion and reason for coming here. I enjoy many of you all, but can't acknowledge perfection in any, much like Peter said. I have thrown out far more than I even dare post here, to be critiqued, and keep scraps piled up to re-work, but I'm not defeated or so inhibited by naysayers, though it has lately dampened what I believe is my better poetic spirit and voice.

captivating! Wow, there's a conflict interior the poetry section? i'm slightly surprised! i might desire to comprehend if it became R&S with all the heated evaluations & baiting questions, yet what's there to do conflict over in poetry? certainly I pass over something here. i desire I in no way grow to be so jaded that a sort observe or lending my help will become merely too lots to ask of me! keep writing my chum, the middle might desire to have that's highway of expression, no rely what that highway may well be. Many advantages!

The severest judge at my gate

Is Elaine but then that is my fate

She is an editor one of the best

I very seldom pass the test

But still I plod along with rhyme

She knows I do it all time

A poet I will never be

But then what the hell do you expect from me

I would have said myself, but really, it's the professor I have right now, Andrew Hudgins. He's pretty severe when it comes to poetry, but he's accurate, too, which makes the class completely worthwhile.

That would be me! I've written a couple thousand poems and only like about three of them... for now.
