Can someone help me make a plan for applying for colleges?

I currently am a junior in high school in Massachusetts, and I am hoping to attend a college in Florida because that is where the majority of my family lives. Problem is, my high school is very bad at helping students plan on applying for colleges. I was hoping someone on here could at least give me a little advice on applying for colleges so I have an idea of what to do for the next two years of high school. Thanks very much in advance!

You got some good advice here. There's a couple of critical steps. First. go online at the schools you're thinking about and make sure you've met any academic requirements. Many have requirements like 4 years of English, 4 years of math, etc etc. You need to make sure you've fulfilled all the minimum requirements.

Second, ensure you have the right GPA. You need far better than just the minimum allowable GPA - you need to exceed if you want to be reasonably sure of acceptance.

Third, you'll probably have to take the SAT or ACT. Both are standardized tests. Google them, make sure you know everything there is to know about the tests.

Finally, you need to apply for financial aid early if you want a reasonable shot at getting it. Follow the links or, after you've Googled your school of choice, call them. They should be able to help you. And finally, if you high school doesn't have the resources to help you, take the initiative and go to a nearby college and talk to a counselor there. Even if you don't plan on applying to a local college, they'll still be a wealth of information.

But the most important thing to do is start now. You need to start your research now.

www.collegeboard.com can help you compare colleges and majors.

You should look at the application deadlines for schools, and file your FAFSA for financial aid as early as possibly next year (as soon as you and your parents get all of your tax returns). Schools have financial aid deadlines as well.

Try to visit some schools over spring break, winter break, and summer if you can. If you can't, you can still just apply, but it's better to get a feel for what you like.

Some schools accept the "common application" which means you fill out one application for multiple schools, maybe with an essay.

Your junior year is very important (as is your senior year, but especially junior year) so work really hard to get good grades. If there any extracurriculars that interest you, join, andmake sure you finish any community service requirement.

I'm currently a senior in high school in Louisiana. First, you should figure out and decide which kind of college you really want to go to....like a public university, private university, big or small. Next you should schedule a visit to tour the campus. Then, to decide your major, think about what you are really interested in. Finally, view the requirements of the university and gather it together and in the frist part of your senior yr. you should start to apply to the universities.

Absolutely usually, you will have to talk with a counselor seeing that a few college do besides early packages, however a reminder the software price is surely non-refundable so if making a decision to use two times the you can have got to pay two times. Hope that is helping!!
