well, you already have body heat, and it's just your skin that feels cold. by putting a blanket on, you are trapping the body heat, thus[ooh, i know! FANCY WORD TIME!] leaving heat for your skin. hope that helped.
if you are talking about how to put them on or whatever, i have no idea...just kidding. well, i like to keep most of the blanket on one side, but still keep myself covered. i need to get out quick, because a murderer might come. hope that helped to....

YOU PUT THEM OVER YOUR BODY AND IT CREATS THE BODY HEAT TO STAY IN A CONSTRICTED CONFINED SPACE AND KEEPS YOUR BODY TEMPERATURE AT A CONSTINT NICE WARM TEMP!
