Why are the 'Sleep' and 'Hibernate' options greyed out on my laptop Shut Down menu?

I usually put my laptop on Hibernate or Sleep when I'm away from it for a while but today, both were 'greyed out' making those options not available. I have rebooted and tried to find help for this but no one seems to know. It's an HP laptop with Vista.

Hope someone knows. Thanks

Maybe you were logged into another account instead of an Administrator's account, it happens all the time to me because I once accidentally logged into my Guest account and those options were grayed out because the Guest account did not have enough permission to perform those operations.

If this does not help then check with Microsoft on their site, the assistance is free.

    Maybe it's doing an update.
